Paul Grimmer

Balancing is the second in an ongoing series of live works titled Performance Stills, which place a spotlight on the theatricality of the everyday. Anxieties surrounding interaction and perfect presentation are drawn out, with the ever-present possibility of ‘failure’. Through the series the body becomes ‘stuck’ to domestic objects, which offer comfort, their purpose becomes absorbed into absurd compulsive acts of self-doubt, amplified by silence and the passage of time.

Paul Grimmer’s work employs performance, video, documentation and installation to amplify the latent presence of forces that affect us beyond our control. Interrogating the body a psychological, social, personal and political construct, his work examines interaction, boundaries and uniqueness mapping the tension between and within bodies and the constant uncertainty of being.
